Absences

In middle school, I was that student that had a perfect attendance record. It was intense. I didn’t miss one day of school for 3 years straight! What an accomplishment, right?

Now, I don’t even care (I almost laugh, calling myself a “nerd”). In most of my classes, I can miss ten class sessions. I occasionally take advantage of these absences for important things, such as having to play somewhere, work, work for other classes, or sleep (hey, I’m being honest…and it’s crucial to function). I don’t mind missing class as long as I have a grip on what’s coming up and I can stay on top of what happened in class.

However, I hate missing church. I’ve been on at Oak Leaf each week consistently for a very short two months, but it’s home to me. I’m actually going to be away from Oak Leaf for the next two weeks. This week I’m playing at a special event for a church that my band, Six Piece Suit, plays at each week. Then next week I’ll be at the National Youth Workers Convention here in Atlanta. I’m looking forward to that a lot (and I’m even getting an entire 3 hour class credit for going to it!).

I hate to be gone from Oak Leaf, but I look forward to being back. Maybe then I can start my perfect attendance record again…
