I’m debating buying a new camera. Not a wimpy camera, but a really nice camera.
I want to use it to take pictures while I’m on the road (indoor and outdoor shots) and to have as a “family camera” later on (once I start having a family and all of course). Now I know that I don’t know a lot about photography, and I don’t claim to, but I want to have a great camera that can allow me to take good quality shots, without having to study photography a whole lot. Once I get a camera and I’m equipped with a few good lenses, I’ll be good enough to get by and I’ll learn a lot too…
The battle of the cameras is between the Nikon D40 and the Nikon D60. I’m leaning more towards the D60 (because of the 10.2 megapixels compared to the 6.1 with the D40), but wanted to get some more professional help.
Anybody have any input for me? What camera should I go with? Any lense suggestions?
Howdy,
I have a D80 but if I didn’t need the screw drive of the D80 that allows it to use old lenses then I would definitely get the D40. The D40 is one stop faster than the 10 meg pixel D80. This one stop is a significant advantage. The extra pixels of the D80 is of no consequence unless you print photo’s at some huge and costly size. The extra speed of the D40 means you can get shots that wouldn’t have been feasible otherwise. The more pixels you have the slower the camera.
Here is a bit of comparison here.. http://rvewong.wordpress.com/2008/07/05/my-turn-on-the-water-blaster/
