I was excited to see some guys playing basketball at camp this past week. Although we were thousands of miles above sea level and the oxygen was thin, I was looking forward to getting out and playing. When I got out there, I watched them finish a game. There were no hot-shots and I knew I could take most of them, even being out of shape.
I got out and airballed my first warm up shot. I decide that I’d just drive a lot and not take a lot of outside shots. I still had them.
Well that was until I went up to get that rebound two minutes into the game and landed on the side of my foot, perfectly rolling my ankle. I guess I forgot how many ankle issues I had my last year playing ball and how I needed to be wearing an ankle brace to prevent things like that from happening. Then it happened…
Reality Check.
To these students, I’m just an older guy in the band who, like most old people, can’t do anything physical without getting hurt. Great. I’m already washed up.
I’m not as young as I once was, but I’m only 21…surely I’m not declining in my physical ability that much already!
