awesome board! ive been following up your posts just recently, and its been very helpful/inspirational. thanks!
I just have a few questions for you if you dont mind answering..
1) Which pedalboard did you end up going with?
2) For the DL4, what was the mod? tap tempo?
3) How are your delays/modelers hooked up to your tap tempo?
4) What cables are using right now?
5) I noticed the eventide delay/modeler? how do you like it?
Cheers,
glad to help…
1) i went with the showcase black bullet “on the road” board. i love it.
2) it’s basically the keeley mod that gives cap upgrades, new input and output buffers, fixes the infamous volume drop associated with DL4s/MM4s and changes the led’s. i also have a switch on top that works as an expression pedal switch that allows me an extra setting for each mode of delay saved to that preset. finally there is a tap tempo input jack. my friend jack vaughn (jhv3.com) does all my mods and does a killer job.
3) each tap has a cable that runs under the board to the taps from the units.
4) lava cables…best i’ve found. small profile for squeezing pedals tightly and the sound is so clean. hold together better than any george l’s i’ve used too…
5) i like them both a lot…i’ve considered going back to my dd20 and might end up doing it. the timefactor can just do so much, i’m always tweaking. lots of possibilities between the 2…
hope that helps!
hey, what Z head is that? I couldn’t make it out in the video.
it’s a maz 18 jr with no verb…i had a combo and traded it for a head and 1×12 cab.
Do you have any “go to” settings on the MAZ 18 NR?
depends on the guitar…i mainly play the duesenberg and will keep the gain pretty low with the bridge humbucker on mostly, the cut is pretty low and i eq it pretty balanced (treble and mids to make it cut through and bass to fill it and make it rumble). i put the master up pretty high to get some good sound through the speaker.
it’s chimey when strummed lightly but has a little growl and drive to it when dug into. is that what you were asking…?
Hey Nathan,
Not really. haha…j/k. =)
I have played Dr. Z’s for quite a while, and the MAZ 18 NR is my main amp. I have several cabs that I use (Dr. Z 4×10, several 112′s open and closed w/ celestion blue, g12h30, greenback, g12-65, etc.
Just wondering what physical settings you use? I tend to keep the cut at 9 o’clock, MV > 3, TMB between 10-12, and the Volume to taste / mic’ing. I usually run through the LO input with pedals when playing live, but I have used the HI input when I use minimal pedals (no drive…just volume on guitar). Those settings are with single coils. HB’s are different. For some reason the amp sounds too dark with the MV past 2 o’clock. I try to keep the MV around 12-2 and the Volume past 12. Also, I use the HI input for HB’s…it sounds better to my ear. The extra gain brightens it up.
Anyhow….what clock settings do you stick with most of the time?
Forgot to mention…..the Air Brake (attenuator) is a must for me. Hard to get the tubes cooking without it. As with everything else in life…moderation is key.
not sure what they are honestly…
i use an airbrake when needed…but most the time get by with cranking it.
